Summer is here in Marbella! The perfect time of the year to enjoy the delights of the beach and the sea all day as well as the al fresco evening dinners and night club parties from sunset to sunrise.
The summer in Marbella brings a multitude of wonderful events and celebrations. We begin the summer with the Marbella Feria; a spectrum of colour, fun, culture, dancing and excellent tapas. These festivities commemorate the reconquest of Marbella by the Catholic Kings in 1485 and tourists and citizens alike enjoy all the charm of a traditional and colourful Andalusian festival. This is the Spanish link to Marbella's Feria event starting on the 6th of June.
Many popular beach venues and nightclubs take this opportunity to pull out all the stops and celebrate the summer with spectacular innovative parties. There is an abundance of activities to explore for all ages.

In 2009, Marbella was the city chosen for the Davis Cup. This year, it will be held again, here in Marbella. The setting for this great event is of course the renowned Puente Romano Hotel Tennis Club, on Marbella's Golden Mile. The matches will take place this weekend and we are all expectant to finally see who is taking the famous international tennis trophy.
Davis Cup History
The tournament was conceived in 1899 by four members of the Harvard University tennis team who wished to challenge the British to a tennis competition. Once their respective lawn tennis associations agreed, one of the four Harvard players, Dwight F. Davis, designed a tournament format and ordered an appropriate sterling silver trophy, purchasing it from his own funds.
The first match, between the United States and Great Britain was held at the Longwood Cricket Club in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1900. The American team, of which Dwight Davis was a part, surprised the British by winning the first three matches. The following year the two countries did not compete but the US won the next match in 1902. By 1905 the tournament expanded to included Belgium, Austria, France and Australasia, a combined team from Australia and New Zealand that competed together until 1914.
The tournament was initially titled the International Lawn Tennis Challenge although it soon became known as the Davis Cup, after Dwight Davis’ trophy.
From 1950 to 1967, Australia dominated the competition, winning the Cup 15 times in 18 years. On the 100th anniversary of the tournament’s founding, 129 nations competed for the Davis Cup.
